Abstract Based on the List of Fake Health Information Features (FHIF) developed in the prior study, this study explores the ability of people of different ages to screen health information in social media. It examines the effectiveness of the list in helping users of different ages improve their ability to identify fake health information in social media. It also investigates what factors affect their screening abilities. An experiment was conducted with users from different age groups, including 44 young people, 67 middle-aged users, and 39 seniors. T tests and ANOVA tests were performed to analyze the data. The study indicates that young people are better than middle-aged people and senior citizens at identifying fake health information. Gender, region, and the degree of their attention to health information significantly affect their ability to judge the veracity of health information. The results also indicate that the List is useful for young and middle-aged people but not for seniors. Some methods are proposed and discussed to improve seniorshealth information literacy. The study has implications for health information literacy education.
