| The Relationship between Cultural Capital and the Academic Impact of Journal Articles |

Abstract The relationship between cultural capital and publication impact has not received significant research interest. Journal articles are one form of publication. This study aims to examine whether cultural capital can promote the academic impact of articles. On the basis of article- and author-related data, this study tests the relationship between the cultural capital and academic impact of articles, from embodied, objectified, and institutionalized perspectives. The study results indicate that these three types of cultural capitals exert positive effects on the academic impact of articles, and these effects are reflected by scholars’ educational background, previous productivity, and academic degree. Cultural capital can increase the impact of academic articles by promoting their quality and contributing to the reputation of their authors.
