Abstract The introduction of the reform and opening-up policy has led to significant progress in information science in China. This paper reviews the current situation of information science, introduces the discipline system, and examines the hotspots and discipline integration in this field. The primary problems, including weak theoretical foundation, lack of impact on social development and national security, and insufficient intelligence work, are also analyzed in this paper. Suggestions for the future development of information science in China are also considered, which include the construction of a theoretical system, development path, and strategies for promoting the status of information science.
