Subject Hotspot Research Based on Word Frequency Analysis of Time-Weighted Keywords |

Abstract Based on life cycle theory and word frequency analysis, the development of a research field can be objectively tracked and analyzed. This study constructed a time-keyword frequency matrix, combining relative word frequency and word frequency change rate; proposed a logistic function giving keyword time-descending weights; and designed a time-weighted keyword word frequency analysis model that calculates comprehensive values of keywords to reveal research hotspots and trends in a research field. The keywords of papers published in 18 core library and information science periodicals in CNKI and CSSCI from 2013 to 2017 were analyzed and categorized as high-frequency, intermediate-frequency, or low-frequency to examine the model s effectiveness and accuracy. The model’s calculations rank rising high-frequency words higher than declining high-frequency words, enabling quick identification of rising high-frequency words. Similarly, the model’s rankings also allow scholars to identify low-ranking low-frequency words with the potential for greater development. This provides a basis for scientific judgment regarding future research trends.
